A Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea : Charlotte Street Hotel
Posted on March 3rd, 2018
My mother spends a lot of time in France. So our Mother’s Day is often celebrated apart. This week, ahead of the snow she arrived into London. I was so excited, I had many plans in place. My first was to take her for an early Mother’s Day afternoon tea at my favourite hotel.
I mean why would I take her any where else? London was looking so magical, we took a beautiful bus ride through the London snow in glorious sunshine, up to the Charlotte Street Hotel.
Getting lost in Bloomsbury is a treat. Surrounded by beautiful Georgian architecture and the garden squares of Fitzrovia, we arrived at in Charlotte Street chilly, hungry and very happy.
We settled into their sitting room and watched the London snow fall with a lovely glass of sparkle.
What we ate:
On the savoury front my favourite was the chicken, leek and gruyere vol au vent, but anyone that can make avocado with chilli relish taste good, isn’t going to fail. The other favourite was the grilled aubergine pepper, with basil pesto wrap. Utterly delicious.
The scones… well my mother gave them a full 5 stars. Nice and crusty on the outside, falling apart with every mouthful, topped with the obligatory blackcurrant jam.
Sweetness was mouthwatering. Delicate lemon kisses, strawberry pavlovas, rose petal macaroons, red velvet cupcakes, finishing up with a passion fruit opera cake.
What can I say other than the sweet tooth moment had been delivered. All nicely washed down with a pot of Earl Grey tea.
My mother was so happy, she loved every moment. I would definitely want to be in the back little sitting room. It’s quieter than in the dining room, you are surrounded by beautiful Bloomsbury art – which I’ve written about before. I could easily say, this is very much my happy place. It was a perfect treat for Mother’s Day, and the Mother was very happy as we trotted off towards Selfridges for a little shop in the falling snow – magical.
Mother’s Day Tea runs on 10th & 11th of March
The Bloomsbury Set Tea will start again on 3rd April.
