Having finished my annual London Theatre course at the V&A with New York Times theatre critic Matt Wolf, I come to you with some ‘hot’ recommendations for London shows to book now. This course continues to keep my passion in London’s ‘theatre land’ truly alive. I am so happy to share some of Matt’s recommendations interlinked with a few of my own choices.

If you are visiting London this year, then a London show should be on your list. We have some of the best talent in the world and the diversity to match. In other words there is always something for everyone to see. Book early and you can get some really well priced tickets.

Patriots at Noel Coward Theatre

I have included in my list some shows that have just been announced and will sell out very quickly.

My 7 London shows to book now

  • Best of Enemies has transferred to the Noel Coward. Starring David Harewood and Zachary Quinto on the true story about the first American political debate. On now.
  • Oklahoma another hot transfer for a limited season. It has all the feel good factor you need for 2023.
  • Patriots The sell out play starring Tom Hollander and Will Keen transfers into the West End from the Almeida. Book it now if this political Putin thriller appeals. Opens May 2023.
  • Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons starring Jenna Coleman and Aidan Turner in a love story that will leave you speechless. I couldn’t quite get the measure of this, but maybe it will appeal to the younger audience.
  • Mandela at The Young Vic. The brand new musical in partnership with the Mandela family. On now.
  • A Little Life starring James Norton opens at The Richmond Theatre before its transfer to the Harold Pinter. A long one, but I suspect a gem. Having read the book over Christmas I’m very excited. Opens March 2023.
